A new health food and supplement shop opened in my local shopping center last week. Yesterday was the day I finally checked it out. The variety of bodybuilding supplements on display was amazing. I have never seen many brands here in the United States. The salesman approaches me and asks if I need any assistance with the supplements that I was considering. He asked me if I was interested in the new creatine supplements and I agreed. I stopped him after about two minutes. I was insulted by the absolute garbage coming out of his mouth. He clearly had read the promotional package from the supplement company and had padded it a bit to make the sale. He didn’t tell me where he was trained. When I continued to question him about creatine (which I already knew the answer to, as I was testing him), he was completely unaware of what I was talking. I eventually walked out. As I walked out, I thought about how someone new to bodybuilding or supplements could be easily swayed by the salesman. I decided to share my knowledge with newbies about how to avoid being ripped off when buying supplements. Supplements are expensive, and I have a million other things that I would rather spend my hard-earned money on than supplements that I don’t use.

Here are some things to consider before you make a purchase of a supplement. Knowledge is power. Your first line of defense against being scammed is knowledge. It is a crime to walk into a supplement shop without knowing what you are looking for. This site has many resources. You can find information in whole food daily fruits vitamins our supplement section, supplement articles section and discussion forum. Before you make any purchase, I recommend doing your research. You can get independent advice from our forum members, compare prices and read reviews. You have so many options that you can’t resist reading. This is especially important considering the fact that supplements can make a big difference in your muscle gains. Don’t believe the salesman. Don’t listen to someone who will make a profit off your purchase. Salesmen are trained in order to sell the most. Supplements are often overhyped and advised to purchase unnecessary products.

Always seek out independent advice from trusted sources. It was difficult to find good quality, independent advice if you didn’t know someone who was involved in bodybuilding or worked in a supplement shop. The internet has made it possible to get quality independent advice. You can find thousands of articles, ask for help on forums and get advice from others. There’s no reason not to research. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Another age-old saying. It does not apply to supplements.

Supplement companies love to exaggerate their products and lie on their packaging. These are some classic examples: “Studies show …” What? These studies were conducted by who? Is it possible to have a copy? Companies conduct in-house research that we are not permitted to view. “A new and improved formula” What can you do to improve something that is already the most expensive? That’s exactly what I was told when I received my last package. There are many good supplements available, don’t get me wrong.

Be careful of miracle pills that claim to help you lose weight. You should only buy supplements that are based on your goals/training. Ronnie Coleman doesn’t have to take it. Top bodybuilders endorse supplements companies’ products for a large sum of money. Do not get too caught up thinking that these men made it big by using these products. Often, a bodybuilder won’t use or endorse a product until they’re well-known on the IFBB circuit. How did they become so successful? They ate like a bear, and trained like Olympic athletes. Your goals and training program should dictate the supplements you purchase. If you only train 3x per week, there is no reason to spend $300 on 6 different supplements.

Rely on Old Brands

Over the years, I’ve seen many companies drop out of the supplement industry. Their supplements are often too expensive or of poor quality. This is why they fail. These companies may make some money, but they soon lose their customers and are forced to close down. Because they offer quality products, these supplement companies are long-standing. These companies have survived the test of time. Trusted companies have nothing to lose by misleading customers about their products. These products are usually trustworthy.
